Governors Island National Monument:

Ferry Information

Governors Island is a 10-minute ferry ride from lower Manhattan. FREE ferry departs from the Battery Maritime Building, Slip 7, located at 10 South Street and adjacent to the Staten Island ferry terminal at the corner of South and Whitehall Streets.

Tuesday-Thursday Morning Tour: Departs Manhattan via ferry at 10 AM - All visitors must return to Manhattan at Noon.

Tuesday-Thursday Afternoon Tour: Departs Manhattan via ferry at 1 PM - All visitors must return to Manhattan at 3 PM."

this is that curious-looking fortress you could see from accross the water if you're driving down the FDR.
and for the 2006 season, ferry+tours are free.

i think the kayak tour may be pricey, not sure.

can the tuesday crew make it an event.. i caught a news program about the island looks like it would be a good trip...p.s do they have a starbucks there, ill only go it they have one :)
